“Selected Cemeteries and Gravestones of Garrett County, Maryland”

by Patrick T. Smith

I am pleased to announce that a new pictorial reference book “Selected Cemeteries and Gravestones of Garrett County, Maryland” by Patrick T. Smith is available through the FFAA. Oddly enough, the gravestone has become standard research tool of the genealogist. Vital statistics (birth, death and marriage date), family association social (father, mother, son, daughter, children of) or military service are often curved on the stone.

The Garrett County Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) have published two excellent books (Book I & II, published 1987 and 2004, respectively) on the cemeteries of Garrett County, Maryland. Regrettably, images of these gravestones are hard to find or unavailable to most people.

This book presents nearly thousand gravestone images (digital photographs), containing 1,187 names from 44 cemeteries, of Garrett County, Maryland.  Maps for each cemetery have been included with the images.  These images constitute a portion of gravestones within Garrett County, MD, but represent some of the oldest families (Browning, Custer, Frantz, Frazee, Friend, Glotfelty, Harvey, Hinebaugh, McRobie and others) of the county.  These cemeteries, with their gravestones, are presented in the same alphabetically order as listed in the DAR Graves Book I & II.  This book is 298 pages in length, fully indexed and contains the names of 423 Friends buried in Garrett County, MD. The printing costs have been donated to the FFAA; therefore 100% of the all book sales go the FFAA. The FFAA is a tax-exempt organization, so all-sales are tax deductible.

Credit card purchases can be made by using Pay Pal at the FFAA web-site.

Orders paid by check (made payable to the FFAA) should be sent to:
